Discussion with L'inis : Hier encore - The use of Facebook in researching and making a documentary

Activities and Events

Judith Plamondon, Lessandro Sócrates and Caroline Bergoin – all 2013 graduates of the INIS documentary program – worked on their first feature film in 2016-17. Originally titled Hier encore, the film is about new love at the age of 70, set against the background of Quebec snowbird culture in Florida.

The filmmakers used Facebook to bring their protagonists together and build an audience. By posting profiles of snowbirds to the site from the earliest phases of research, they were able to test the quality of their characters and show them the nature of documentary and how it interprets reality. Here they will present exclusive images and discuss their creative process as part of a wider discussion of ethical concerns around the use of Facebook in researching documentaries.
