Gifoscope

Activities and Events

Presented by the RIDM in Place Pasteur, the Gifoscope is inspired by the praxinoscope, an optical toy invented by Émile Reynaud in the late 19th century, and by the animated GIF, a popular format for short clips on the Internet. Based on the principle of looping animation, the Gifoscope’s rotating drum helps create the illusion of movement. Visitors set it in motion, animating images by visual artist Martine Dupuis, a recent UQAM graduate.

Presented with the support of UQAM, the Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles, the Ville de Montréal, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal. Produced in collaboration with La Camaraderie, DIX au carré and PRAXI inc.
