Carcasse

On a desolate, unnamed island, a clutch of people and animals survive against hostile nature, with its overwhelming swarms of insects and merciless snowstorms. They toil at daily survival tasks that are often indecipherable, and ingeniously recycle relics of the past. In this land outside time, filmed in grimly beautiful black and white, the artifacts of worn-out modern technology find new purpose: an airplane fuselage becomes a sheep pen, an old car a raft. Clémentine Roy and Gústav Geir Bollason’s project is mid-way between ethnography and science fiction, a document of an intriguing world that could presage a way of life cobbled together after a future catastrophe.
