In the Waves Jacquelyn Mills

Film index A to Z

Parmi les vagues

For a summer, director Jacquelyn Mills filmed her grandmother at home in her seaside village. Deeply affected by her little sister’s death, the old woman wonders about the meaning of existence and her looming death. Driven by a poetic vision, switching between affectionate observation and metaphysical pondering, between dream and reality, past and present, In the Waves is an intimate yet universal love letter that questions, with profound gentleness, our relationship with the world. The sounds of daily life become music, and the smallest shifts in natural light become instruments in a delicate, melancholy melody – the song of a life in tune with nature, observing the coming dusk with trepidation and wisdom.
