The Dispossessed

The disastrous environmental impacts of modern agribusiness are no longer up for debate, but few documentaries have explored the consequences for workers. An ambitious project, filmed around the world, The Dispossessed approaches the global food crisis from the farm worker’s perspective. While multinationals, blessed with government support, keep developing solutions supposed to solve the world’s hunger problems, rural folk keep getting poorer, perpetually pushed toward bankruptcy, displacement, a paradoxical inability to feed themselves, and even suicide. With enlightening interviews and keen observations of agricultural work, backed by exceptional cinematography, The Dispossessed unpacks the systemic causes of the tragedy.

Presented in collaboration with CSN, CECI, Les Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois and Ici Radio-Canada
