Film index A to Z

Mrs B., a North-Korean woman

Mrs B. is a woman whose life has taken some startling twists and turns. After returning to North Korea secretly to help her husband and children, she was sold to a Chinese family and forced to marry the son. She then became a smuggler of goods and people, and tried to get her North Korean family out of the country with the help of her Chinese husband, an accomplice whom she eventually learned to love. Filmed furtively in both countries and on the trails used by illegal migrants, Jero Yun’s film is a tense portrait of a woman living an extraordinary life. A camera on his shoulder, sometimes in perilous situations, the filmmaker captures his subject’s complex dilemmas and the private tragedies endured by the shattered families of today’s economic and political migrants.
