Room for a Man Anthony Chidiac

Film index A to Z

A woman’s voice tells the story of a man. The camera explores a room with a Baroque feel. This room is both a refuge and a prison, and much of the film takes place there. We are in Lebanon, visiting a family proud of its name and ancestors. A conservative family, where some things are forbidden – not least homosexuality. In this deeply intimate essay, Anthony Chidiac brilliantly uses cinema as a starting point for reflection and a tool of survival, resistance and openness. A visit from Syrian workers, a family album, a Skype call and a quest in Argentina come together to paint a heartbreaking portrait of an abused life, marked by a desire to flee but with nowhere to go. A first film demonstrating exceptional talent.
