The Thing about Co-production : How to work with Canada?

Increasingly, Quebec’s documentary film- makers are taking an interest in international co-production, because it allows them to access more funding sources and reach larger audiences, while sharing the production workload with colleagues around the world. It seems like a fantastic opportunity, but it isn’t as simple as it sounds, and there are many obstacles to successful collaborations. In this practical open workshop, experts will explore the financial, administrative and cultural facets of co-production, with the aim of producing a checklist of essential tips for organizing a first successful co-production.

ACCT Breakfast: Reaching Quebec’s documentary audiences through social media

The ACCT presents the results of its Facebook campaign to publicize the nominees in the documentary categories for the 33rd Gémeaux awards. The four-week campaign involved audience tests throughout Quebec. For each of the 40 films, three audience types were targeted, and the most popular posts, most effective posts and most popular topics were measured. This breakfast presents the findings, which contain a wealth of useful information for the documentary industry.

DCM presents, for the first time, the Pitch balado ICI RADIO-CANADA PREMIÈRE. This pitch session for podcast creators and producers will allow selected participants to present their podcast series to a jury of professionals as well as the DCM audience. Projects are eligible for the ICI RADIO- CANADA PREMIÈRE award, consisting of $15,000 worth of development time (two months) with the crew at ICI PREMIÈRE, which will then stream the finished product.

Documentary series build an audience and can go deep into stories that a one-off documentary film can’t always accommodate. For producers, making series means more durable relationships and sustainable production budgets working with broadcasters. For author-driven creators, the series format actually offers creative liberties and requires strong directorial chops, supported by a team of creative partners. Champions of the author-driven series get together to discuss the advantages, collaborations and best practices awarded by the genre.
