Synopsis : Every year, hundreds of children are forced to leave their parents behind, flee their own countries, and seek asylum in Canada. Alone uses both animated and filmed real-life scenes to tell the stories of three such children: Afshin, who fled Iran 35 years ago; Alain, who fled Burundi 15 years ago; and Patricia, who left Uganda just a few months ago. Filmmaker Paul Tom returns with an illuminating and touching feature-length documentary: a diverse, historical perspective on an experience that exists in multiple forms. With characteristic sensitivity and engagement, he explores the complex issues surrounding people in exile and their reception in host countries. (Programming Collective)
