With Colombia facing troubled times once again and violence on the rise, two old films resurface, fortuitously stored in the same box. They date from 1984, at the beginning of peace talks between the government and the guerrilla movements. One is a documentary about Indigenous struggles, the other an independent fiction – a horror-noir flick. In this experimental essay, filmmaker Daniel Santiago Cortés brings the two films together; seen in the present, a strange dialogue emerges between them, in both imagery and content. Taken together, they testify to the strife and division tearing the country apart, coming across as eerie foreshadowing of a story that keeps repeating, tauntingly. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
