Surviving Violence - Nov 26 to Dec 2

Ankebût Ceylan Özgün Özçelik

Films A to Z

“I am not dead.” That chilling assertion of defiance ends this Turkish short film, which succeeds in portraying a true waking nightmare in just a few minutes. Sensitively using superimposed images that form a kind of city stroll haunted by violence, filmmaker Ceylan Özgün Özçelik immerses us in the thoughts of a battered woman. Driven by powerful testimonials and alternating between dream and reality, the film transforms reality into an anguished mental space, that becomes a reflection of all those women who, at one time or another, faced the oppression that remains all too common. A poetic and political work that fights fiercely against an untenable status quo. (Bruno Dequen)
