Zentralflughafen THF
Tempelhof Airport in Berlin was one of the pillars of Hitler’s rearmament program. Since 2015, it has served as a shelter for migrants, who wait interminable months for rulings on their refugee applications. Karim Aïnouz takes us inside the life of this strange miniature city: the plywood bedrooms have no doors, for fire-safety reasons; children’s cries echo through the immense hangars; migrants look out at snowy runways and remember the scorching summers back home. Focusing on the story of a young Syrian, Ibrahim, the filmmaker patiently guides us through meetings with the doctors, teachers and social workers who try to make the migrants’ stay as humane as possible.
