Echoes of the past

Conversations avec Siro Dima El-Horr

Conversations avec Siro

Siro, a Beirut born Armenian painter and actress, finds herself in mourning at 87 after the death of her husband, celebrated theatre director Berj Fazlian. The Paris-based Lebanese filmmaker, who is a long-time friend of Siro, decides to console her through regular telephone conversations. The exchanges, fragmented between the two cities, are sincere and jovial but also create an opportunity to evoke questions about loneliness, exile, nostalgia and on how to reconnect with life once again. The personal stories take shape against the backdrop of a Lebanon in wounds, plunged into a deep economic crisis, and hit by the apocalyptic explosion of August 4, 2020, which destroyed entire districts of Beirut.
