Dropstones

Filmmaker Caitlin Durlak (a participant in the 2014 Talent Lab) delivers a poetic and observational work set against the idyllic and picturesque backdrop of Fogo Island. Taking back control of her life after a complicated marriage, Sonya returns to her native island with her two children. As the head of the family, Sonya is firm, but overflowing with warmth – and she is determined to shape her sons’ characters so they will become good men. Once desperate to leave this small fishing village, she finds that, years later, it has become a haven of peace. The camera captures the changing seasons and the intimate beauty of family moments, evoking both freedom and a powerful sense of community and belonging. (Programming Collective)
