After Algeria gained independence, the French government decided to relocate its space centre to Kourou in French Guiana, a location considered to be calmer and more stable. As inheritors of this colonial legacy, Maxime and Audrey Jean-Baptiste, a brother-and-sister artist duo, tell the story of collective dispossession through their incisive and otherworldly cinematic work. The filmmakers reappropriate the National Space Centre archives, while a narrator explains the intraterrestrial invasion and its structures that have carved out permanent scars. Listen to the Beat of Our Images gives voice to a population condemned to silence. Its poetic approach is forceful yet lyrical, with a soundscape that plunges us into a timeless space.
