Strength of the living

Holgut Liesbeth De Ceulaer

Holgut

In the heart of the Siberian tundra, a teenager and his older brother go on a hunting expedition in search of the legendary and endangered reindeer. Rather than reconnecting them with their roots, this journey ultimately forces the brothers to confront the drastic and undeniable changes taking place in the region. The thawing permafrost has brought the remains of long-lost species to the surface, drawing a multitude of prehistoric treasure hunters. At the same time, on his quest for mammoth fossils, a scientist is hopeful that he will be able to resurrect the beast thanks to cloning technology. In Holgut, tradition and modernity intermix to highlight an impending climatic catastrophe. Although this film presents a dystopia, the story it tells is almost lyrical in the way it combines elements of fiction and documentary. (Programming Collective)
