How the Room Felt Ketevan Kapanadze

Rogori Ikho Otakhi

Despite laws to protect its LGBTQ+ communities, traditionalist values run deep in Georgia, making it a particularly difficult place to live as a queer person. Named after a poem by American author and activist Audre Lorde, How the Room Felt invites us to share the daily life of a queer community in the city of Kutaisi. The audience sits with them as they smoke and drink, exchange words of love and moments of tenderness, and discuss their anxieties about the violence of the outside world. Their intimacy is captured with empathy and affection, and their mere existence as queer individuals is a quiet act of rebellion, heavy with a desire for visibility and freedom.
