I Signed the Petition Mahdi Fleifel

Film index A to Z

Summer 2017: the BDS movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) urges Radiohead to cancel a planned concert in Tel Aviv. In Palestine, a man signs the petition but is immediately filled with doubts, which he discusses over the phone with a Palestinian friend in London. Together, they unpack the meaning of public support for a cultural boycott of Israel. How effective is it? What are the risks of supporting it? Starting from a simple set-up in which we have only the voices of the two friends to guide us, Mahdi Fleifel examines the methods used in the struggle against Israeli apartheid. After the superb A World Not Ours and Xenos, the director returns to the RIDM with an equally sensitive exploration of the Palestinian condition today.
