Icemeltland Park Liliana Colombo

Films A to Z

Gleeful shouting and laughter accompany the amateur videos: welcome to Icemeltland Park, where tourists “admire” the melting of the Greenland ice cap. Welcome to a truly dystopian place – where the end of the world as we know it is another tourist attraction, where filmmaker Liliana Colombo has made a brutally effective broadside. Slowly, the screen is divided up, subliminally displaying apocalyptic scenes of the ocean swallowing land all over the world. Before/after satellite images taken by NASA complete the grim portrait of a planet on the brink. Through editing, Colombo produces creative satire, roasting the voyeurism, narcissism and frivolity of a society in which spectacle has become the be-all and end-all. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
