Focus Brazil : Navigating the Future

Karioka Takumã Kuikuro

Takumã Kuikuro and his family live in an Alto Xingu village in Brazil’s Central-West Region. In this humourous film, he films his family's first trip to Rio de Janeiro, a city embedded in the imagination of his community through images on television. Taking a plane, swimming in the sea, playing with non-Indigenous children, and participating in street demonstrations. While the filmmaker watches his children have precious new experiences, he recalls his own stories and discoveries. Seen through an Indigenous lens, the reality of the city is reinvented.
— Camila Macedo, Festival Olhar de Cinema
