King Lajoie Joannie Lafrenière

Films index A to Z

He’s the star of Pointe-du-Lac in Trois-Rivières. He works on his tan through long sunbed sessions. He stays in shape at the gym and dotes on his perfect hair. Sometimes he travels by limo, but he’s always available to his fans, when he’s not at his day job selling hair-care products. For decades, Elvis Lajoie has celebrated the memory of the King. Devastated by his idol’s untimely death in 1977, this endearing impersonator retired as planned before making a comeback in the early 80s. Now much older than the King was at his death, Elvis Lajoie tells all to Joannie Lafrenière in this portrait – as affectionately kitschy and plain-speaking as its subject. The King is dead… long live King Lajoie!
