Strength of the living

La Colline Julien Chauzit

La Colline

Three young people from Marseille, on summer holidays in nearby Martigues, make friends with their summer neighbour, a woman from Paris. With their meeting as a starting point, the filmmaker plays with genre-film formulas to provoke and record a process of awakening and politicization. In this film, documentary and fiction take turns contaminating each other. Julien Chauzit is a catalyst for real human interactions, exposing the dilemmas faced by a local population caught between economic needs and the recognition of the harmful impacts of industrial activity. At the same time, Chauzit conveys the anxieties of youth vis-à-vis environmental destruction and the need to act to prevent the looming catastrophe. An assured first feature that explores the political possibilities of cinema. (Programming Collective)
