Les Coasters Nicolas-Alexandre Tremblay, Stéphane Trottier

Coasters

Quebec’s Basse-Côte-Nord region has about 5,000 residents. They are francophone, anglophone and indigenous, scattered along 375 kilometers of Gulf of St. Lawrence shoreline. Their communities are isolated from the rest of Quebec, and hurting from the out-migration that tends to affect remote areas. The “Coasters” are rarely in the news. For a year, Nicolas-Alexandre Tremblay and Stéphane Trottier took the pulse of the communities “beyond Highway 138.” While they acknowledge the difficulties their protagonists face, the filmmakers are primarily concerned with understanding the essence of life in the region, with its unparalleled community spirit and the stubborn vitality of cultures that prioritize living each moment to the fullest.
