Lichen Lisa Jackson

Films A to Z

Lisa Jackson gives us a guided tour of the fascinating world of lichens, the symbiotic organisms that often resemble moss – but are not. Filmed in 3D macro, the film shows us countless varieties of this ancient life form, in all their splendour. Lichens have always intrigued scientists for their ability to survive extreme conditions and for their workings, simultaneously collective and individual. Backed by the expertise of lichen specialist Trevor Goward, this odyssey into a captivating world becomes an experience both aesthetic and meditative. Science and philosophy enter a dialogue, inspiring us to take a new perspective on life forms that we often ignore, but that have much to teach us. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
