This journey into darkness by Colombian filmmaker Camilo Restrepo (La impresión de una guerra, RIDM 2015) won the award for best first feature at the Berlin Festival. It follows a mysterious man on the run. Playing a role inspired by his own life, Luis Felipe Lozano is a marginal man suffering unrelenting stress due to his past as a cult member. He has been rejected by society, and he’s haunted by a murderous act of vengeance. Shifting between past and present, between mind-space and reality, the film is like a waking nightmare, driven by a tormented figure who snatches the camera and tosses it away. Blessed with a sense of editing and imagery reminiscent of Pedro Costa, Restrepo shows immense talent with Los conductos. An uncompromising political film about Colombia today. (Bruno Dequen)
