Filmmaker David Teboul is inconsolably grief-stricken from the loss of a much-loved man who succumbed to his addictions. Haunted by sadness and guilt, he decides to go to Siberia. Travelling through seemingly endless, profoundly lonely expanses, far from warm hearths, he talks to the locals who cross his path. The question is always the same: what is love? The duality of openness to others and serious introspection characterizes this thoroughly original film. With superb images of Siberia’s icy expanses and the filmmaker’s voice recalling a painful past, Mon Amour takes the time to listen to – and see – those who are never asked existential questions. It was time. (Bruno Dequen)
