Niña mamá
In Argentina, every three hours a girl under 15 is forced to give birth. While the country continues to outlaw abortion, many young women, many of them suffering poverty and systemic violence, must make a difficult decision about their unwanted pregnancy. Filmed during private consultations in a public hospital, Andrea Testa’s documentary tells some of the stories behind the statistics. Filming in muted black and white, keeping the right distance from each patient’s face, the director observes the girls’ interactions with the social workers who, out of frame, help them see a future in spite of difficult family situations, abusive relationships and the looming reality of motherhood.
