Visión Nocturna
This first feature by young Chilean director Carolina Moscoso is a powerful and courageous work that has already earned several festival awards. The film explores the psychological after-effects of the rape the filmmaker suffered eight years earlier; she invents her own cinematic language to express the day-to-day burden of the trauma. Assembling image fragments filmed over several years – apparently banal and sometimes even joyful scenes – her private diary is juxtaposed with a parallel narrative that appears in the form of short sentences, recalling the ever-present violence of the past event and a justice system incapable of finding the perpetrator guilty. By sharing how rape has darkened countless moments in her life, the filmmaker opens a difficult but generous dialogue between the world and her own pain. (Charlotte Selb)
