Nomad: In the Footsteps of Bruce Chatwin Werner Herzog

Films index A to Z

Bruce Chatwin, the famous adventure writer, was one of Werner Herzog’s closest friends and collaborators. Thirty years after Chatwin’s death, the filmmaker dons the backpack his friend gave him and sets out to follow in his footsteps: Patagonia, Australia’s Aboriginal lands, the green hills on the border between England and Wales. With his inimitable storytelling talent, Herzog takes us along on an exploration of fascinating people and landscapes, while telling us how his own career is intertwined with Chatwin’s life. In this highly personal film, Herzog lends emotion and nostalgia to an exploration of the roots of a deep friendship: a taste for travel, extremes, stories and the big questions about humanity, to the ends of the Earth.
