Oscar Thiffault Serge Giguère

Films index A to Z

Lively beats, catchy choruses, colourful melodies: the songs of Oscar Thiffault are a cross between country and Québécois folklore. A humble man who’s also a showman, Thiffault is more than a singer – he’s a storyteller and a witness to his era. In his documentary, Serge Giguère uses new and archival footage to tell the life story of an important figure in Quebec’s folkloric heritage. Now 75, Thiffault is fully on board with the filmmaker’s project. He agrees to shoot at the real-life Rapide Blanc, north of La Tuque, the place that inspired the lyrics to one of his songs, a tale of lumberjacks, their loneliness and the women who keep them company.
