Searching Eva Pia Hellenthal

Films index A to Z

Eva, a young Berliner of Italian origin, has long been convinced that privacy is an outdated concept. Like some other Millennials, she shares the most intimate details of her life online, letting her fans comment on her Instagram and Tumblr posts. Model, queer poet, feminist, anarchist, sex worker… It is really about sharing your identify with the world, or is it more about using social media to construct a multitude of virtual realities? Eva’s selfies and blog posts depict a fluid being, at once everything and nothing. Pia Hellenthal’s remarkable first feature gets in on the game, playing in the zone between documentary observation and artificiality, as she explores the fragmented personality of her protagonist, and unpacks the public presentation of gender and sexuality.
