Srbenka Nebojša Slijepcevic

Film index A to Z

Theatrical director Oliver Frljic is staging a play about a Serbian girl who was murdered in 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence. Tensions remain high to this day, even in schoolyards. Nebojša Slijepcevic films the theatre company’s rehearsals and the debates sparked by the project around its relevance and the general situation, while establishing a subtle mise en abyme. Art becomes the incubator for group therapy, and the actors’ own memories inform the rewriting of reality found in the play. Between the play and the film being made, a space opens for dialogue and catharsis. It seems like the only possible escape from the vicious circle of hatred. (ACO)
