Stray Elizabeth Lo

Films A to Z

Close to the ground, the camera follows three stray dogs, Zeytin, Nazar and Kartal, through the streets of Istanbul. We discover their territory and habits, and the humans they know. They take us to surprising places and give us a novel look at Turkish society and human situations we rarely see. The three dogs’ paths converge on the young Syrian refugees who also live in the streets. Minimalist yet spectacular, Elizabeth Lo’s film is driven by a spontaneous, immersive approach to direction. Filmed from the dogs’ eye-level, this sensory work takes their perspective in order to get a clearer look at humanity and its paradoxes, and to put the world’s invisible beings back in the frame. (Apolline Caron-Ottavi)
