In the Republic of Georgia, a rich, powerful man buys some enormous, century-old trees from around the country. He has them uprooted and moved to his private garden. Filmmaker Salomé Jashi captures the details and scope of the massive, absurd project. While the workers are meticulous, they’re also critical of the outlandish venture. As villagers look on and comment, the forced relocation of massive trees is revealed to be not only divisive, but fraught with environmental, economic and social questions. Taming the Garden is a poetic and political observational piece brimming with evocative images that take deep root within us. (Programming Collective)
