The End and the Means Pawel Wojtasik

Film index A to Z

Filmed over a five-year period, mainly in the sacred city of Varanasi, India, this new film by Pawel Wojtasik (End of Life, RIDM 2017) profiles different workers – a street dentist, a surgeon, a weaver, a masseur – interspersed with quotations from Indian authors. This dynamic approach used in this exploration of the world of work transcends simple observation. We develop a close relationship with each subject, and there is also a very strong sense of place, in a country where the street is a workplace for many people. Gradually, a bigger picture of human society and its complex workings emerges before our eyes. Through its tireless workers, the city becomes an organic entity driven by collective activity.
