The Gospel of Eureka Donal Mosher, Michael Palmieri

Film index A to Z

In Eureka Springs, Arkansas, population 2000, people have a flair for spectacle. The Bible Belt town is home to a grand theatrical staging of the Passion of the Christ – and also has a gay karaoke bar said to have the nation’s best drag show. How do these two clashing cultures co-exist in the Deep South, of all places? Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher (October Country, Off Label) set aside the usual stereotypes of today’s highly polarized America, and deliver a most welcome glimmer of optimism. Narrated by trans artist Justin Vivian Bond – playing the devil incarnate – The Gospel of Eureka brings the small community’s fragile but astonishing bonds into sharp focus.
