Australian filmmaker Allison Chhorn is both behind and in front of the camera for this medium-length work about grief and solitude. After the death of her Cambodian-immigrant parents, the young woman she portrays takes over the family greenhouse and immerses herself in mundane chores to cope with her grief. Still, nature and her memories of family overwhelm her simultaneously, threatening her attempt to live in peace. Through her remarkable work with images and sound, Chhorn creates a delicately sad and strange atmosphere that’s particularly haunting in this time of isolation. How can one live alone? What do we still have of the loved ones who aren’t with us? Whether it’s real or imaginary, this diary of mourning reveals the healing potential of manual labour. (Charlotte Selb)
