Time Is Out of Joint Victor Arroyo

Film index A to Z

The forests of Michoacán, Mexico, have become the preserve of narcocapitalism. Illicit trade, cartel crimes and state violence come together in this highly strategic location, making it the epicentre of the drug war. Victor Arroyo’s film is a video essay and a meticulous observation of the landscape, testifying to the destructive upheavals that have befallen the land, unscathed only at first glance. In this once-peaceful countryside, a complex reality has taken root, pitting guerrillas, police and drug cartels against one another. The silhouettes of victims of kidnapping and injustice gradually intrude, a haunting layer of imagery. With his carefully crafted directorial approach, the filmmaker makes us face the reality of horrific atrocities. (ACO)
