Wash Day Kourtney Jackson

Superbly shot on Super 8 film, the colourful short film explores the agency of Black women through the conscious act of speaking up. Transforming a simple gesture—washing one’s body and hair—into a step toward female emancipation, three young women describe their journeys to self-acceptance and self-care and how they learned to confront to microaggressions that they experience on a daily basis. An introspective and powerful work, Wash Day is a first step toward healing and liberating the present from centuries of patriarchy, white supremacy, and the silencing of Black peoples.
