Strength of the living

White on White Viera Cakanyova

Biela na bielej

Different shades of white cover the pristine icy horizon of the Antarctic. Based on a Polish research station, filmmaker Viera Cákanyová’s (FREM, 2019) lyrical essay in the form of a video diary comments on climate change and the influence of the human race on the planet. Amusing and philosophical conversations with an artificial neural network on the meaning of existence, on film and art perceived by a machine, reveals a way of thinking that’s free from human emotionality. Far from civilization, the filmmaker adapts to the loneliness and the silence imposed by the local climate, and plunges into deep and thoughtful introspection about the future.
