Presented by Netflix, the Forum RIDM Talent Lab is a unique creative and professional development initiative. Led by industry professionals and other members of the documentary community, a cohort of emerging creators have the opportunity to reflect on their projects and artistic practices over three days of private workshops and presentations. The Talent Lab brings together Canadian emerging artistic talent to incubate documentary film projects, expand filmmaking practices and foster community networks.
Selected filmmakers are also eligible for various grants and supports offered by Canal D, NFB and CineGround
2022 TALENT LAB CALL FOR PROJECTS
The Call for Submissions is open from August 26 to September 30, 2022 (deadline 11:59PM Montreal time zone)
THE CALL IS OPEN TO :
- Emerging filmmakers who have made a minimum of one short film and a maximum of one feature film or serie
- AND have a creative documentary project (film of any length and/or series are accepted) in development or production
- Filmmakers residing in Canada (permanent residence required)
-Participants who have been at previous Talent Lab editions with a short-film are eligible as long as they submit a long feature film for this edition.
THE TALENT LAB IS :
- 3 days of activities
- Group work sessions on specific themes under the guidance of mentors
- Individual feedbacks on your project
- Workshops, master classes and discussions with local and international professionals
- RIDM + Forum accreditation giving you an online access to all the films of the festival and the entire Professional Forum program ( One-on-One Pitches non included).

SUPPORT FOR 2022
For the 2022 edition of the Talent Lab, three types of support are offered to participants:
ONF SUPPORT
The ONF is a partner of the Talent Lab for a fourth consecutive year. The Documentary Studio of the NFB's French program is helping the next generation of filmmakers in 2022 with an amount of $5000 in the form of a contract in the development phase for the selected project.
NFB SUPPORT
The NFB's English program this year doubled its support for the development of an English-language project by a Canadian-based filmmaker chosen from among the Talent Lab 2022 participants, for a value of $5,000.
CINEGROUND SUPPORT
This year, CineGround is once again committed to offering a $5,000 bursary in the form of post-production services to a Canadian or Quebec project.
FAQ
- Not open to CEGEP students
- Only one person per project can be selected to the Talent Lab
- Travel and accomodation costs are not covered for participants
- The language in which your project is being developed must be either English or French
- Submissions are individual, nominative and open to directors only (the Talent Lab is not open to producers)
- Candidates must be available for the entirety of the Talent Lab, from November 18th to November 20th, 2022.
- Workshops and talks will be held in English and French, according to the guest speakers.
- The group work on participants' projects will be held in the language corresponding to each project.
