In an almost impressionistic style set against the backdrop of the carnival, the whirl of fairground rides seems to mirror Kim’s state of mind. The young Québécois carnival worker is starting to think hard about his future. Little by little, documentary filmmaker Isabelle Grignon-Francke builds a sense of the doubt that overcomes Kim when Billy, his colleague and best friend, is fired. Is it finally time to follow his passion and search for precious stones? The film’s visual beauty is enhanced by its deft handling of the unsaid. As a result, this short documentary takes on a unique character while capturing the inner tribulations of the carnival, rarely shown in film. (MB)
