At the closing reception of the Territoires de la médiation culturelle forum at the Society for Arts and Technology (SAT), Manon Gauthier, member of the Ville de Montréal Executive Committee responsible for Culture, Heritage, Design, Space for Life and the Status of Women, presented the inaugural Prix de l’Action culturelle to the RIDM for the “In Prison” program, which presents Quebec films to inmates, with the filmmakers in attendance.
The initiative helps build bridges between prison life and the outside world. “The RIDM has reached out to a very specific audience, offering an original, high-quality cultural activity in correctional settings. I congratulate the winning organization as well as the finalists and the rest of the nominees for this inaugural Prix de l’Action culturelle, which recognizes cultural outreach and appreciation initiatives in Montreal. I hope this award has a bright future, and encourage Montreal-based cultural organizations to develop new activities and submit them for consideration for next year’s award,” Ms. Gauthier said.
Created by the Ville de Montréal as a way to recognize openness, creativity and community action in the cultural sector, the Prix de l’Action culturelle honours a cultural initiative that succeeds in reaching Montreal-based audiences that traditionally have limited access to professional cultural productions, including youth, ethnic minorities and families.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE THIS IMPORTANT PROJECT A SUCCESS!
