Dieux de Pierre
A documentary that borrows from magical realism, Gods of Stone shares the existence of the border village of Moimenta through the history of its lands and those who gravitate around them, particularly the family of Mariana, the youngest daughter. This work explores the relationship between humans and the land through the codes of legends, amplified by a play of colours that anchors the story, sometimes in time, sometimes out of it. The issues facing the community resonate within the Freitas Tavares household: rural exodus, transmission, growth, and a sense of belonging. Filmed in 16mm over 15 years, Mariana grows up confronting these challenges, which will force her to make the heartbreaking choice to leave like many or stay like her mother. (SCV)
