Panorama - The State of the World

In the Rearview Maciek Hamela

A vehicle makes its way between military roadblocks and minefields en route to the Polish border, evacuating Ukrainian families forced into exile by the war. Both the young and old bord this temporary refuge, hoping to safeguard their dreams for a brighter future and to leave behind the trauma of war that has so violently shaken their lives. In this intimate and poignant film that is never sensationalized, Maciek Hamela’s centers the stories of these individuals. Their words paint a portrait of a merciless war that has devastated whole villages and scarred the landscape as much as it has broken futures and swept away the innocence of youth. (MB)
