National Short and Medium-Length Competition

Mecánicos piratas de Lima Carlos Ferrand

In the early 1970s, Carlos Ferrand worked as a director of photography for the Revolutionary Government of the Armed Forces of Peru. This short film, made over 45 years later using contemporary black and white Super 8 footage, is a journey into a timeless past. Between traffic and soccer games, the filmmaker artfully captures the hustle and bustle of the daily lives of a group of street mechanics. The impressive and deeply poetic sound design sometimes melds sounds into tangible music. In Mecánicos piratas de Lima, a nuanced ethnographical work, the realistic and the dreamlike are deftly spun together.

Carlos Ferrand will also participate in a discussion with Sylvain L'Espérance on november 22nd as part of Doc-to-doc : 25 years of Encounters
