Cuban Hat Pitch 2018

2018 Edition:

The Cuban Hat Pitch is back for a eighth year!

For its 14th consecutive year running from November 10th to november 14th, Doc Circuit Montreal and the Montreal based coop MAKILA bring the film community together (project creators, industry professionals and audience).

With plentiful of ideas and prizes awarded by both industry and public, this one-of-a-kind cabaret-style event is always a highlight of Doc Circuit Montréal (DCM).

Call for projects

From July 12th to September 3rd DCM invites all Canadian directors and digital media producers to submit proposals for documentary projects: features, medium-length films, single episodes, series, VR projects, interactive works, etc. Projects can be at any stage of development, production or post-production. We encourage bold projects that promote new perspectives on the world. We also encourage projects that use the artistic possibilities offered by new technology, and that can inspire local and international audiences to take a stand on the important issues of our time.

Finalists have the chance to win cash or service prizes to begin or finish their film, while also increasing the visibility of their project. All finalists will take part in a three day pitch training and receive a DCM accreditation for the entire forum.

Any unfinished linear, series, interactive or virtual reality documentary project are welcome to submit.

Important Dates :

Ahead of the event that will take place on November 12th and following a call for projects, five projects will be selected by a committee of experts, followed by an online public vote held for one week. Each team will then be invited to pitch their projects in front of a live audience and a prestigious jury to win numerous cash and service prizes, generously offered by our partners.

  • Pitch training with Makila: September 29th, October 13th and November 9th

  • Audience vote on cubanhat.tv: November 1st to 11th

  • Cuban Hat Pitch Event: November 12th

  • Final Submission Date: September 3rd 2018
