Panorama - Against the Grain

La Bonga Sebastián Pinzón Silva, Canela Reyes

Deep in the jungle, the small village of La Bonga was home to a proudly independent Afro-Colombian community since the 17th century. Driven into exile by far-right paramilitary forces, inhabitants return 20 years later to the place they once called home. The group travels night and day, slowly approaching the broken dream they reluctantly abandoned. The memories of children who grew up are intertwined with Elders’ legends. All are anxious to finally see the place where they were born. Together, they will face the devastating question of the exiled: how to come home when home no longer exists? (SC)
