All André-Line Beauparlant's films have left a deep impression on me, which persisted for years after seeing them. From Trois princesses pour Roland to Petit Tom, her raw but always benevolent, tragic yet humorous view has made the members of her family a veritable mythology of Quebec documentary. Her approach, however intimate, explores humanity without compromise, with a rare acuity for finding universal material. I've chosen to present Le petit Jésus as a Doc-to-Doc with Le Plein potentiel because, despite their diametrically opposed formal approaches, they both touch on the same existential question: the basic human need to believe, whether in God or oneself. (Annie St-Pierre)
This screening is offered for free as part of Doc-to-doc and will be followed by a discussion with Annie St-Pierre (Le Plein potentiel), who programmed the film, and André-Line Beauparlant.
