The Silent Majority Speaks was filmed in Iran during the 2009 Green Movement, a popular uprising that followed electoral fraud and grew into the largest protest against the Islamic regime since its implementation in 1979. Tracing the history of political revolt in Iran, this forward-looking documentary essay explores collective memory and historical patterns, prompting a thought-provoking reflection on the role of images and their use for different purposes. Bani Khoshnoudi’s best-known work, this film was initially released clandestinely under the pseudonym The Silent Collective and was named by French curator and critic Nicole Brenez as one of the 10 essential films of the century.
